Creek Chub Bait Co. Garrett Indiana.

Deemed by historians as one of two principal manufacturers of classic fishing tackle, the Creek Chub Bait Company's creators began making lures by hand for family and friends’ years before the business was officially launched. In 1910, Henry S. Dills, George Schultess & Carl Heinzerling joined their interests in fishing lures and officially started the tackle company. With a small factory in Garrett, Indiana, they spent the first year manufacturing their fishing tackle. In 1911, Creek Chub Bait Company was open for business & the lures delivered to local shops. C.C.B. Co grew over the next 18 years & later moved into a larger manufacturing plant in 1929. The innovators at C.C.B. Co are indeed responsible for creating one of the most important lure enhancements of all time. C.C.B. Co creators decided to place a fine netting, typically used for women's hat designs, over the lures during painting to create natural scale patterns on the lures. Collectors might still be able to find lures from the original netting paint designs as these lures appeared on the market beginning in 1917. C.C.B. Co was the first to use glass eyes to embellish its lures, glass eye or (GE) versions of C.C.B. Co lures are the most sought after. C.C.B. Co continued with glass eyes on its wooden lures during the 1950s, staying with glass eye’s longer than other tackle companies who switched to painted tack eyes. Collectors of vintage fishing lures certainly search to add classic items from the C.C.B. Co brand lures to their collections. In the 1930s, 40s and 50s, the C.C.B. Co Wiggle-fish was just one of many lures produced for Canadians by Allcock, Laight & Westwood Company, located in Toronto, Canada. Collectors with an assortment of vintage lures must include a variety of Creek Chub lures to their collection. The C.C.B. Co innovations are legendary, many serious collectors feature Creek Chub Bait Company fishing lures.

Here is a very cool Creek Chub Select Six box insert artwork. This is an original that would have been inside the box of assorted CCBCO Lures. This set was made from 1927 - 1933 the assortment of lures included a #700 Pikie, a #2400 Wigglefish, a 2600 Jointed Pikie, a #1500 Injured Minnow and a #2800 Weedbug.  (NFS)

First Produced around 1906 and last advertised in 1964. The legendary lure that started it all, The Creek Chub 100 Wiggler. We have dated this lure to 1917 / 1918 based on the hardware and lip. The lure has the flattened head, hand painted gill marks, early washer hardware, double line tie and no date on the lip. Our early 100 is in the Natural Chub color. We are happy to preserve this lure in such great shape. A lure over 100 years old and its still a beauty, a testament to the great quality of the Creek Chub Bait Company and the great people who made them.

This Creek Chub 100 Wiggler is the oldest in our collection, after consulting with several experts and NFLCC members we have this lure dated to 1910-1912 era, but most likely this lure was crafted before the Titanic Sank! This is a rare and very tough early version of Golden Shiner. Creek Chub's Golden shiner went through a few changes, this near copper version was one of the early colors they worked with. This lure has no name or patent date stamp on the lip, has old washer hardware on the belly hook, and no tail washer. The shape of the lure along with the color and unmarked lip make this one a very, very special add to our collection. Now when you see the belly photo you will understand why we urge anglers to keep those awful plastic worms away from your old lures or any lures. Worm burn happens and melts the finish off lures.  Please, Please separate plastic worms or soft baits from your other tackle.

Creek Chub 200 Baby Wiggler first introduced in 1917 last advertised in 1954. Very Early 200 Baby Wiggler in original Chub color. This lure is over 100 years old and loaded with very cool features. The scale pattern is early you can see in the photos of the bottom that the hat netting was used. This lure has very early hand painted gill marks, and double line tie. Along with a completely unmarked lip and Washer hook hardware. The 200 Baby wiggler was the second lure offered by Creek Chub and was always a more rounded lure. The early 200's were offered in the same colors as the 100. We have this lure dated to 1917-1918, even though some think this lure is 1916-1917 based on paint, hardware and other clues, we will go with when the lure was introduced. The women in the shop did a beautiful job painting this lure over 100 years ago, a paint job we still enjoy today.

CCBCO 700 Early Pikie double line tie. Introduced in 1920 with series #700 the 700 Pikie came in 6 colors this is the early 1920's era Pikie color. Notice the fine netting scale pattern. Creek Chub 700 (00) color went through several changes over the years. Lures like this from an early and much more innocent time are a real pleasure to enjoy. When one thinks about the 1920's and the new cars and bikes of the time, the roaring 20's. Imagine rolling up on a great fishing spot on your Harley Davidson 20-J and breaking out a CCBCO 700 fresh from the shop and catching a big Bass. Thoughts like that are what make this hobby so much fun! (SOLD)

Early 1930's era Creek Chub 702 Pikie in standard Red & White with the double line tie . Creek Chub had Red Head and White as a standard color, but also had many variations available. Such as blended head and tail, and vertical and slant dipped versions with no eyes.

CCBCO #1500 Injured Minnow in Pikie Scale color. What is interesting is the 1925 catalog did not list (00) Pikie Scale as a color for the Crip. Very Early Creek Chub 100 Wiggler. We have dated this lure to 1917/ 1918 based on the hardware and lip! The lure has the flattened head, hand painted gill marks and fins, early washer hardware, double line tie and no date on the lip. Although due to the very early perch color, some think this bait dates earlier. Our early 100 is in the very early Perch Scale color. We are happy to preserve this lure in such great shape. A lure over 100 years old and its still a beauty, a testament to the great quality of the Creek Chub Bait Company and the great people who made them.

This Creek Chub 100 Wiggler is a very special add to our collection as it's one of the early Red Side color wigglers. This one dates to between 1917 / 1920 we fit this lure into the 1917 / 1919 time frame because of the missing patent date stamp, washer hardware and no tail washer, as well as the flat head and double line tie, all clues to a pre 1920 lure. The Red Side color was listed new in 1917 making this one of the early lures to appear in this color. 05 Red Side would later be replaced by a more bluish Dace Color. We are always looking for these very cool interesting 100 Wigglers, each one has it's own character and special appeal. One could never have enough of these fantastic antique lures. It's over 100 years old and to us just as beautiful today as it was back when it was new in the shop.

Originally called the Creek Crab Wiggler, sometime around 1920 the name was changed to the Crawdad. First produced in 1917 this great lure would last until the 1960's. The lure was finished in Natural Crab and was the only finish available in 1917, but in 1918 Albino was added. In 1919 Tan Crab appeared, and in 1922 River Peeler arrived. These colors were the standard on this series into the 1950's, when Silver Flash, and Perch were added to the line up. This Crawdad features the gold military stenciling which was used from 1935 - 1949. This series was very popular up through the 1940's but fell off in the 50's. These lures had rubber legs which deteriorated over time, some lures have survived with legs. But legs or not, this lure remains very collectable and popular among Creek Chub Collectors. (SOLD)

Creek Chub 701 Yellow Perch color 1933-1936 era. This well preserved lure has a lot of great features that include the Blue Eagle NRA stamp on the box. In 1933 with the USA in the middle of the Depression, President Roosevelt signed legislation which created the National Industrial Recovery Act. It was intended to end cutthroat competition, and build fairness in the workplace. However for reasons of anti-trust and other issues, the administration NRA was abolished in 1936 after being declared unconstitutional. The NRA stamped boxes were used from 1933-1936. This lure exudes history in it's excellent ++ condition, catalog, order form, and lure hang tag.
