Jackfish Lures got it’s start in Edmonton Alberta Canada in 1997, Founded by Gary C Love on a coffee table at his Dads house. He was trying to build a lure for Northern Pike he could fish fast, and at the same time the lure have a big presence in the water. His Crimped wire and molded body design was crude at first but refined into a fish catching masterpiece. The First Jackfish Lure Bucktail spinner was crafted with crimped coat hanger wire and a lead body. Success with this design at local tournaments, along with his family and friends catching fish, was leading to people asking for Gary to build lures to sell to the public. Approached by an associate of the Canadian National Sportsman's Show, Gary was invited to bring his Jackfish Lures to the public for the first time at the Edmonton boat and sportsman’s show in 1998, where he sold out of lures after just two days into the four-day show and had to build lures on site at the show. In 1999 Jackfish Lures bought out Bi Logic Tackle, a small company that was in Ontario Canada, and Jackfish Lures Non-Toxic Tackle Company was born. The equipment that came along with that buyout helped in building larger production runs and led to the development of the Mean Muskie Spinnerbait, the most successful and popular lure the company made. Jackfish Lures was part of the Edmonton boat and sportsman’s show until 2005. Later in 2006 the transition and move to Athabasca Alberta took place. The company was moved to be closer to the lakes and streams for field testing in the Northern Alberta area. Jackfish Lures took part in the Athabasca outdoor show in 2011 and 2012 and returned to the Edmonton boat and sportsman’s show in 2017 as it reached 20 years in business. By 2018 Gary decided to retire from building lures and shut down Jackfish Lures, as he did not want the company sold. He wanted every lure ever built by the company to have been made in Canada, and it is so, Every Lure, Jig and Sinker over a million units ever crafted by Jackfish Lures was made in Canada. Jackfish Lures have been sold around the world and shipped to 23 different countries, each lure crafted one at a time by Gary and his team. Over the years the lures have evolved from Lead 1997-98 prototype models to full Bismuth bodies in 1998-2002 to the rugged Tin bodied lures from 2002 to 2018, Gary settled on pure Tin for his lure bodies because of the durability and outstanding vibration components to the metal. Some Jackfish Lures may still be out there in the wild still in the packaging. Some people are probably still fishing with them, for Jackfish Lures it was 20 years of fun, family and fishing.

This is the first original Jackfish Lure Bucktail crafted on a coffee table. This was the creation made with coat hanger wire, and eagle claw treble hook. The tail was hand tied with a feather plucked out of a bag of feathers for a duster. Some of the very early lures came with Mustad treble hooks. By the time Jackfish Lures were sold at the 1998 Sportsman's show, the wire was 0.35 stainless and some of the bodies were made with lead and some with bismuth.

The ECG series Cardiac Kid Buzz-Bait was a very good seller for Jackfish Lures. This lure was fantastic for attracting large Northern Pike to smash it over weed-beds in the evening when the water was calm. Quite often the fish would strike close to the boat creating a startling effect for the anglers.
